FM 104

So for my second week of work experience I was working with FM104. I got the placement by just messaging them on Facebook messenger haha, easy work I know, I didn’t even have to send a CV. They said they’d be more than happy to take myself and my best-mate Patrick who would also be doing it with me.

Every morning we would get up at 8am and we’d be on the bus for 9:00, we’d get the 25B as far as Heuston Station and then we’d get the Luas to the Point at North Wall Quay, thankfully the stop was directly outside it so that was handy.

On the first day we met our Supervisor, who was really really sound and she was young too so she made us feel at home. Then we met a girl who was also doing work experience – a girl from Loreto on the Green. It was good that we had another person doing work experience with us as it meant we weren’t going to be bored.

On Monday we carried out a few surveys for FM104, wrote some news articles and memos and got really interesting talks on Sales and Promotions, we finished the day working with the accountants where we filed accounts.

On Tuesday we wrote a music article, got to chill in the studio with a Radio Presenter – Steve, that was cool, we got to see how it works in the studio and he told us all about the job.

On Wednesday we got to write, script, plan, and record a Radio Advert for “Secret Cinema”, here we worked with the radio editors and in the studio to produce a really cool aural advert. We shared the lines between us and it was great craic recording it.

On Thursday we got interviewed by the CEO of the company about our radio tastes, did more journalism work on the computers, helped out the accountants again and we got to chill in the studio with Jim Jim from the Jim Jim and Nobby Strawberry Alarm Clock. He was hilarious tbh.

Finally on Friday, we went out with the Beetlebugs where we went around Dublin surprising people with gifts, that was good craic, the people running the Beetlebugs were really really nice so it was fun.

We also got to meet Christy Dignam from Aslan so that was cool.

The best part about the work experience was getting to know new people, thankfully we all got along really really well so it made the experience even better.

I know I’d definitely enjoy a career in Radio or TV after doing this work experience.
