So I'm just back in school after three weeks of what was mainly banter, chilling and general Christmassy stuff. I have to say though, Christmas 2016 rates as by far one of the best Christmases I've ever had. We started off the Christmas holidays with something different, so instead of going to the cinema with friends or going out to Nando's which is you know, the usual thing people my age do, my incredible group of friends decided that we'd do something different, we thought it might be a fun idea to have Christmas dinner...so we did.
First thing that probably comes to your mind is well that was probably a disaster, however it was actually the most chill Christmas dinner I've ever been at. We decided that in order for it to work we would all take a separate part of the dinner to prepare so that host wouldn't be left with everything to do. One of our friends offered to be the host so her and her parents cooked the turkey and ham, I was in charge of the roasties (the most important part of the meal of course ;) , one friend was in charge of veg, but of course she went on as if it was the final of master chef, countless messages saying "It needs more flavor, I cant just boil them, have you ever considered chili Brussel sprouts?". Two of the lads were in charge of starters, tapas and melon. On desserts were the others with Cheescake, Chocolate Lava Cake, and chocolate biscuit cake.
I went over early to help the host and her family set up for the dinner, the guests arrived at 5pm and we were sitting down to our pretty impressive meal at 6. Not gonna lie, it was pretty good ;). By the time we were finished I had to open the top button of my trousers.
After a bit of chit chat and lots and lots of Schloer's finest white grape soda, we decided we'd make our way into the sitting room to do the Kris Kindle. I had organized a Kris Kindle a few weeks prior so the big moment was here to give the presents. There were loads of plot twists and everyone seemed to create suspense in some way whether it being walking around the table singing Edvard Grieg's In The Hall of the Mountain King (me of course) or whether it being doing a "Take Me Out" styled manouvre around the circle.
Everyone was delighted with all their presents, with some humorous ones to boot. It's safe to say that I really wasn't expecting to get "Go Diego Go Saves Christmas" and "Destiny Child's greatest hits" … an interesting choice to say the least. Of course then other people broke the rules of the secret santa and decided to buy everyone gifts.
I went home hands full with a copy of 21 Pilots – Blurryface and a very cool jazz vinyl titled "Birth of the Cool" too.
It was after this that I realized how much I actually love my friends, because there really is no better feeling then sitting around a table sharing a meal with people you love most. (Cringe I know but sure its christmas, it happens)
